Monrovia Residence

The Monrovia Residence program is a residential therapeutic community modeled after Boys Republic. It is designed to support adolescents in achieving their treatment goals through a peer-accountability structure. The program emphasizes group therapy to help students develop prosocial behaviors and adaptive coping strategies and address maladaptive patterns within a socially supportive setting.

Key components of the program include:

  • Structured Therapeutic Environment: Built on positive youth development principles, the program promotes growth through structure, repetition, consistent expectations, and nurturing relationships.
  • Individualized, Culturally Sensitive Treatment: Each student receives a personalized, trauma-informed treatment plan that respects cultural backgrounds and specific needs, supporting long-term reintegration and success.
  • Group-Based Approach: The group setting enables students to address behavioral, emotional, and psychological challenges while learning and practicing new skills in a real-time social context.
  • Community Engagement: Students participate in volunteer work and community involvement, reinforcing their roles as productive citizens.
  • Educational Integration: Collaboration with the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) ensures educational continuity and engagement.
  • Self-Governance and Responsibility: The program fosters age-appropriate responsibility and interdependence, encouraging students to take ownership of their actions and decisions.
Monrovia Residence aims to build internal resilience and external support systems, preparing adolescents for healthy, productive lives within their communities.
